Lately, I've been doing a lot of reading and reviewing of resumes. I recently purchased a book to get up-to-date on some of the latest resume trends and suggestions.  A valuable one I'd like to share is the creation of a resume headline.  A headline is used instead of a resume objective, giving you the opportunity up front to let an employer know how you can solve a problem.  It's also a much more powerful introduction than an objective to who you are and what you can do.

Here are some simple steps to help you create a headline for your resume:

1. A headline is centered and added directly under your contact information.
2. Start your headline with a powerful adjective (e.g. experienced, efficient, dedicated, etc.)
3. After you have an adjective, add the type of position (e.g. medical billing, nursing, administrative, operations, manufacturing, etc.)
4. Next, add a word that indicates the type or level of experience you have (e.g. assistant, specialist, professional, etc.)
5. Then, add a list of relevant skills, responsibilities or accomplishments that apply to the job or industry you're applying for.

Check out these examples:

"Talented administrative professional with over 10 years experience providing outstanding support to emergency room doctors."

"An effective XYZ professional with proven success completing numerous project and tasks on time and within budget."

It won't take long to add it, and a well written headline will help to make a great first impression with an employer.
